Serology

Serology is the science dealing with the serum component of blood as regards its reactions and properties. The Serology section provides a full range of assays, including Blood grouping, serological markers of infectious disease (e.g. HIV. HCV, HBsAg, CRP etc. ) and serum tumour markers. Serum tumour markers are done to aid diagnosis, follow-ups, and to monitor disease response to therapy.

Specimens for hormone assays, tumour markers, therapeutic drugs and infectious disease serology are analyzed by electro-chemiluminescence and fluorescent polarization and micro particle enzyme immunoassays using a random access, fully automated Abbot i1000SR Chemiluminescence analyzer.

Mini Vidas, an automatic analyzer with latest technology called ELFA, is also used for analysis of tumour markers and hormones.
